What a great privilege to write notes for this outstanding musical offering by Mark Fitzgibbon. I have been listening to Mark since 1991 and have always felt he was one of the best and most swinging, insightful pianists Australia has ever produced. He has monster chops, a deep and rich melodic sense, a vast repertoire and the feeling he puts out is undeniably legit. Mark's groove is rare because he has lived a wild life full of music and he has done the hard yards shedding, transcribing and musically chauffeuring people to places they would never otherwise get to. I remember hearing him at his club on Brunswick street with his band 'GO' and thinking I hadn't heard hardly anyone play bebop on that level. There are some fantastic moments of music on this disk you can feel the spontaneity and inventiveness of a live performance in every track. These guys have been playing together a lot and the session was an easy and flowing one by the sounds of it. We should thank our lucky stars that we have another building block towards Mark's legacy as a major player on an international level.

He is the son of well known Australian entertainer, jazzman and restaurateur Graham “Smacka” Fitzgibbon , nephew to actress singer Maggie Fitzgibbon and grandson to pianist vaudevillian Min Fitzgibbon, his sister Nichaud is a famed jazz vocalist and brother Andrew a notable drummer. ... more
